Courtney Raterman Casal

Born and raised on the East Coast but a proud Angeleno the last decade, Courtney Raterman Casal is currently the Director of Institutional Development at the Hammer Museum. Having excelled in game theory during her MBA program, she lives by the belief that you always enjoy a first mover advantage when you innovate, and that rigidity is toxic in the face of complexity.

In her role at the Hammer, Courtney is responsible for 4 verticals from foundation, corporate, and government fundraising as well as major and principal giving, and raising millions of dollars each year to support the museum’s mission. Her success stems from her firm conviction that a strong creative industry helps economies thrive—that patronage of the arts and the art world help put culture on the economic agenda through platforming artists that tell stories and address social issues of our time.

Courtney holds a degree in Art & Art History from the College of William & Mary and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. She has worked in nearly every sector of the contemporary art world, including auction houses (Sotheby’s and Phillips), gallery (Gagosian), and foundation (Marciano Art Foundation). She lives in West Hollywood with her husband and rescue pup.
