Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood

The Girls Empowerment program welcomed 114 participants during the grant period. In the Robotics segment, 15 girls improved their scores from an average of 30.67% on the pre-test to 95.6% on the post-test after five weeks. In the following session, 14 new participants collaborated with Marlborough High School’s robotics team for the Lego League Competitions.

The Girls in Film program, a 6-week course, concluded with a visit to the History for Hire Prop House, where students learned about the role of movie props, including those used in the Titanic film. The program was led by award-winning set designer Kim Leonard, introducing students to various aspects of the film industry.

The series finale featured a career panel with four Latinx women from the Walt Disney Company, in collaboration with BGCH Board Member Rachel Alde. The panelists shared their career experiences, discussed financial aid and mentorship, and provided guidance on managing time, stress, and priorities.

    Visionary Women’s grant has helped WriteGirl support 400 BIPOC teen girls and young adults from underserved Los Angeles communities through creative writing workshops, mentoring, and public readings, leading to prestigious awards and college enrollments.

  • Hope in a Suitcase

    Children who have experienced violence or neglect often enter foster care with nothing but the clothes on their backs or carrying a few belongings in a trash bag. Hope in a Suitcase (“HIAS”) provides new essentials to make their transition and their circumstances easier and more dignified.
